The Case of the Online Criminal Justice Degree by eLearners

Do you hunker down with a bowl of popcorn to watch Forensic Files? Do you TiVo every episode of CSI, including the numerous spin-offs? Then, you might want to consider a career in criminal justice by enrolling in an online criminal justice program.

While it used to be that those in the criminal justice system did not go to college, the rapidly evolving science and technology of crime solving, as well as the need to develop verbal skills, writing skills, management techniques and strategic planning ability have led more criminal justice organizations to seek people with degrees. Now, as the field of criminal justice heats up with more people interested in Homeland Security positions and forensic science, a college degree is a requirement.

There are many fascinating aspects within the umbrella of criminal justice. Online schools for criminal justice have sprung up, educating professionals to enforce the law, investigate crimes, collect evidence, protect others from criminal and terrorist activities, and develop criminal rehabilitation plans and security programs.

Jobs in the criminal justice field include corrections officers, police officers, probation officers, customs agents, CIA agents, DEA agents, FBI agents, Secret Service agents, crime scene investigators and forensics experts. In a world where new types of crimes are created as technology advances and globalization increases, there will be a greater need for people to solve and prevent these crimes.

Online schools for criminal justice recognize the growing need to provide comprehensive e-learning modules for online criminal justice degrees. That is why there are many specializations created for online criminal justice degree programs that may not yet be available in traditional settings. For example, some relevant online criminal justice degrees include a B.S. degree in juvenile justice, global issues in criminal justice law, computer security and forensics, homeland security and emergency management, homeland security technology, cyber crime, and crime scene investigation.

Besides the textbook theory of criminal justice, online criminal justice degree programs are in touch with what today's employers seek: effective interpersonal and communication skills, strong problem-solving capabilities, and mental and emotional training to combat the many stressful situations that a criminal justice job may bring.

To get started on a criminal justice online degree, do your investigative report on whether the criminal justice degree program is accredited, what courses are offered, costs, what types of financial aid is available and how will that online university help facilitate your criminal justice job search. Remember, an online criminal justice degree will take discipline and commitment to achieve a successful end. Case closed, an online criminal justice degree is what you need to be the star of your own criminal justice program!

Increase Your Career Well-Being with an Online Healthcare Degree by eLearners

As the new White House administration focuses on revamping the nation's healthcare system, now may be the best time to get prepared for the new career opportunities on the horizon by obtaining an online health degree. With the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics stating that there is a critical shortage of healthcare workers in what is considered to be the country's largest industry, it makes sense to invest in a new career by taking an online medical billing course or even going that extra step to achieve an online healthcare degree.

There are all types of jobs in this field, including health insurance administrators, medical and health services managers, health information managers, healthcare consultants, insurance underwriters, medical billing specialists and IT healthcare professionals.

Most of these positions now require candidates with college degrees because of the increased scope of demands placed on healthcare workers, including knowledge of various business environments and management principles as well as general healthcare knowledge. In addition, those working or starting a new career in the field of healthcare must have strong communication and interpersonal skills to handle the stress and sensitive nature needed in this industry. The more a person can add to their knowledge base, the more attractive they will be to employers looking for those with healthcare college degrees.

To help more people enter the healthcare industry at a faster rate while still arming them with the necessary education, skills, and technical knowledge, online degree programs have increased in number across the country to help those transitioning back into the workplace or those currently trying to alter their career paths into a more fulfilling and well-paying trade. Online health classes are geared to those with hectic schedules who need to get a degree but have difficulty finding the time to do it.

Outside of its flexibility and condensed degree schedule, online healthcare schools are offering the same--if not, more relevant--core education for students in terms of preparing students for today's medical setting, which has become intertwined with technology.

With a wide range of Internet research capabilities, it is easy to find the right online healthcare degree from an accredited online healthcare school that will help you get prepared for a satisfying and sustainable future career in the healthcare industry.

The cost of online bachelor degrees can vary significantly, depending on the online campus you go through. Sometimes called distance learning centers, most of them have the similar characteristics that you can complete your coursework and get your lectures, questions and assignments from your Instructor all via the internet.

It is a common requirement that you login a certain minimum of days per week, but you can choose the days and times, so it offers 100% flexibility enabling you to work your study in around your current lifestyle, unlike campus training. Some of them have learning teams where you can collaborate on assignments.

Online bachelor degrees are a great way to further your education and make you more marketable in a job search. While learning from the convenience of your home, it allows you to save travel expense and hassle. Some of the online campuses offer accelerated programs that allow you to learn at your own pace and get completed much quicker.

Online Bachelor degree costs are also dependent on whether you are eligible for financial assistance or employer tuition reimbursement, and some of the online degree costs are based on the price per credit hour, usually around a few hundred dollars. Some students may be eligible for grants and assistance, based on their income.

The other thing that determines the online degree cost is whether you will be using student loans, or paying as you go. You need to be comfortable with the terms and conditions of the loans, and make sure they will be comfortable for you to repay after you have completed the online course.

Online Bachelor Degree costs can be more affordable, if you are a resident of the State that the online college degree is through, for example, $11,000 versus up to $50,000 for a non-resident, although some online bachelor degree costs are the same at many online universities and can range from $15,000 to $25,000. Depending on which online campus you decide on, they are all somewhat similar in costs, and you can get an accredited online Bachelor degree cost for under $32,000, most generally.

When shopping for online degrees, you need to do the research to make sure the college is accredited by Council on Higher Education or U.S. Department of Education. There are some fake accreditation agencies out there, over 30 of them, in fact, so be careful. If the online Bachelor degree costs seem too cheap, it is probably reason for alarm. By using the amounts above as a guideline, you should be able to find an accredited online campus for your degree.

An online Bachelors degree from a college that is not accredited is not worth the paper it is written on. While most of the online campuses are legitimate, there are some scams out there that might lead you to believe you can purchase one for a few thousand by passing a simple test, completing an application in a very short amount of time, or claim you have earned it based on your resume.

Choosing an Online Degree Program by ScottC

Are you looking for a good online degree program? Trying to choose a college that suits your requirements? Confused about where to begin? Well, since location is not important when deciding on an online degree program, you literally have hundreds of programs to choose from, making things even more confusing. To make things simpler the following is a list of things to look out for when choosing an online degree program:

  1. Check out the track record. Universities and colleges have snazzy brochures and catchy advertising to lure students in to enroll for their programs. It's easy to get overwhelmed by such slick marketing. Instead, take some time and check the graduation and drop out rates for the program you are interested in. It will give you a clearer picture of how well students are being taught by the particular school.

  2. With online education growing by leaps and bounds, the entrance of 'diploma mills,' which churn out degrees that are more or less useless have also increased. To be on the safe side, make sure that you are enrolled with a college that is accredited by a United States Department of Education recognized accreditation agency. Without this accreditation, you might end up with a degree that is not acknowledged in the work place.

  3. When deciding on your online degree program, find out if it specializes in the programs you need for your career advancement. If possible, ask the relevant employers if the degree you are interested in is recognized by them. Check if the programs being offered have up to date material, particularly in the field of your interest. Also check if the license or certificate being applied for at graduation is valid in the state where you plan to use it.

  4. Colleges and the online degree programs they offer have different policies regarding credit transfers. Not every university will accept online credits, so check before enrolling.

  5. Who is on the faculty? The quality of the faculty is imperative in an online program. Success depends on how students are instructed and guided through the study material. Check how long the faculty of the program has taught online and whether teacher-student interaction is encouraged by the college. If it's possible, take a look at how classes are conducted before you sign up. It will give you a better idea of the teaching style, communication levels and how students are assessed.

  6. Before committing any time or money to a program, read the fine print carefully. Study the program schedule to ensure that you will be able to meet all the deadlines and submit your assignments on time.

  7. Look for a well-designed program that is clearly organized with in-depth instructions for assignments and other logistics. There should be opportunities for interaction and activities that encourage students to participate.

  8. Are there special services offered to online students by the college of your choice? Will there be someone to help you out and answer your questions on financial aid or where to research your next assignment? Is the schools website accessible and is the program advisor responsive to your calls and e-mails? Clear cut and transparent information is essential for any good program to function.

  9. Before enrolling for your program, it is recommended that you e-mail the school a list of your questions about the program. Some of these questions could include: Is the program completely online or is there a portion that has to be completed on-campus? Are there entrance exams to be taken before being accepted for the program? How does one register? Are there facilities for online tutoring in case you have problems with the program material? How soon can you complete your degree?

  10. Enquire about how the college handles the technical and technology requirements of online students. Since you might be working on your assignments at any time night or day, it is important that tech support should be available around the clock.

Once you have all the answers to these questions and are sufficiently satisfied with the information you have received, you can confidently go ahead and sign up for an online education degree program, taking that first step towards enhancing your career and your qualifications.

2. Degree Choice Online degree programs have come a long way in the past few years. You can get nearly any program online, like engineering, law, child psychology, a degree in English or creative writing.

Now the more unusual your degree, the fewer schools will offer it. But you can find almost any degree out there if you look for it.

That is cool. A few years ago, you could only find a handful of programs.

3. Accreditation This refers to a school or program that meets certain requirements set by an association to teach a quality program.

While you may not need an accredited degree for every type of degree or job, accreditation does help. You'll find schools of both types offer masters degree online programs.

The accredited schools may require a bit more work, but that benefits you. You should have more job offers, or even higher paying offers.

Not just the for-profit universities and colleges, either. Big name private universities and state schools also have begun offering great options for earning that masters degree online programs.

One of the best parts of the great school choice may be in your city. If you have started a program but have some classes to finish, you may find that your school now offers those classes online. You might be able finish right away.

5. Financial Aid Let's say you need a student loan like a Stafford or Grad/PLUS loan, or a Pell grant. You'll be glad to know these government programs and tons of scholarships also apply to Masters degree online programs.

You'll still have to apply, and qualify. You can apply for these programs to help you pay for tuition, textbooks and your expenses during school.

6. Price Going to college, especially an advanced degree, costs money. Online programs cost money, too, and you'll pay about the same as traditional programs where you go to a classroom.

One of the best parts of these masters degree online programs: you can keep you current job. While that may not seem like a benefit, you'll be able to keep earning money while you study.

Having some money coming in can really help you pay for your expenses.

7. Cheap Textbooks All right, this rocks , too. You go to school online, and now more than ever, you access textbooks online, also. Professors have started using both online textbooks, and also free or lower cost resources.

The result: you may not have to buy as many textbooks. And for the ones you do buy, you can use eBay, Amazon, Half.com, and other great sites to buy used.

Success Is What I Need - Should I Get An Online Degree? by Phillip Bernard

If you have been looking for the right steps to succeed then it may be in your best interest to look into an online degree. Statistically speaking online degrees are pursued by mostly females between the age of 18 and 35 who have kids. It is this exact stat that makes it extremely important for not only that category but the ones who fall out of it to see the opportunities that are presented to them if they where to obtain an online degree.

Almost everyone knows that getting an online degree is so popular because of its convenience. In a lot of cases you can get a degree from a fully accredited online school in your spare time in roughly under 2 years. Some schools even offer degree programs that offer you the opportunity to get a degree in as little as 9 months. This is all possible because of the fact that most and sometimes all of the course work is completed in the comfort of your own home. You don't have to worry about on-campus parking, gas costs, child care, and even money to eat out for lunch.

Another great plus about online colleges is that you don't need to live near a top accredited college to get a degree. This is great for people living in remote regions of the country, people with full time jobs, at home moms, or even the handicapped. A traditional education is not the only route to take when pursuing higher education. There are several fully accredited online schools that will offer you're the degree you need.

Now there are several different ways online courses are taught. It's easy to get this information before you start your degree program. This is necessary because knowing the specifics about how a school teaches its courses is the second step after narrowing down a list of potential schools.

In a lot of cases test and course work are completed at your convenience, and a lot of the time there is no time limit on particular course work. The rest of the course material is usually taught through some kind of live online media. By live online media I mean, using live online audio chats, chat rooms, instant messaging, and by the use of webcams. Usually the only materials a student needs to purchase besides their coursework is a headset with a microphone and a web cam. Most schools also offer recorded records of online sessions.

These online classrooms are extremely effective when it comes to interactive learning, and its all done from the comfort of your own home. The only down fall to them is that you need to fit your schedule around them. This is why its imperative to find out exactly how much scheduled time versus "at your convenience time" there is on a particular degree program.

Getting an online degree is easy if you pick the school that fits you best. Make sure you get information on any financial aid or government grant opportunities available before you finalize what school you want. The only thing left to do is to make sure that the school is accredited with the local governing agency.

Education On The Internet by John Simon

Many of the most universities in the country are realizing that no everyone can attend regular classes to obtain a college education. As a result almost all of them offer distance learning programs that allow students from anywhere in the country to get a university education and even get an online degree.

There are many barriers to overcome in order to get a college education. They range from cost to motivation to accessibility. Many young people and their families simply cannot afford to pay the tens of thousands of dollars that is necessary in a regular degree program. Others live in remote areas of the country that make it impossible to attend college without major support and subsidies.

Distance learning allows them to overcome many of these challenges by connecting to the school of their choice through the Internet and enrolling in online degree granting programs in their field of choice. They can get a college education and still help out on the farm at home or they can work to support themselves during the day and take online classes at night.

These types of programs have transformed the higher education landscape almost overnight. Many millions of American kids will follow their college dreams right after high school, but they are now being joined in the academic world by military veterans, housewives, and thousands of other people who want a second chance at living out their dream.

Distance learning has democratized the higher education system in this country and it doesn't matter now how much money your family has or what stage of life you choose to continue your education. An online degree from a reputable and accredited program is worth just as much as if you went to that school for four years right after high school.

If you could picture an online classroom you would see a wide range of ages and life experiences sitting at their home computer, engaged in the pursuit of an online degree. Their enthusiasm to learn is just as great as those who sit in a regular classroom or lecture hall at the university. But what may strike you the most is that these people who are studying for an online degree have a zeal for learning and a motivation to get ahead that any university professor would love to see in his much younger class. These people desperately want to get their college education and distance learning will help them get there.

Getting An Online Degree by John Simon

While many people dream of getting some kind of degree, it is often impossible to interrupt your career to go to school. Most people have a job, and the hours and classes of a regular university or college often do not fit into their schedule. Or they have a family to support and can't take the time to attend a university. Non-traditional students are becoming the norm instead of the exception, and many colleges and universities are recognizing this fact and responding to it by providing online instruction.

One great option for this type of person is to earn an online accredited degree. This is a degree from a college or university that has accreditation, which means it meets established criteria for each degree it offers. The programs at these online colleges vary. It is a good idea to learn as much as you can about each one before making your decision about which one to attend. Request information and study it closely to make sure they offer the degree of your choice. For whatever kind of degree you want to earn, there is probably an online college that offers it. You can get Associates, Bachelor's or Master's degree, a post-graduate degree or simply a certification that is needed to get a better job. Many of these online programs offer financial aid, as well.

There are so many advantages to getting an online degree. You do not have to commute at all. You can arrange your classes to fit into your life, not the other way around. Distance learning saves you time and money by being able to do it at your convenience around your life. The flexibility is one of the greatest assets of the online degree. You also get the added benefits of meeting and interacting with other teachers and students, and having a degree usually means having a better job and an increased salary.

However, it is important to make sure that your program is accredited. It does you no good to earn a degree from a fly-by-night program that leaves you with a degree or certification that no one will recognize and is only as valuable as the paper it is printed on. Your education is the key to your future, so you need to make sure that it is a good education.

If you were every considering getting a degree to get a different or better job, now is the time to do it. Online accredited degrees are receiving a lot of attention, and before long, they will be considered similar to degrees that are earned in the traditional way. Whether you sit in a classroom or sit at your computer, the same academic standards are applied to these degree programs. Get yours!

How To Succeed With Distance Learning by John Simon

Distance learning has opened doors for many students, especially for those who cannot afford to pay for the high fees of full-time courses. Although online distance learning courses have many advantages over on-campus degree courses, many factors come into play in order to make this a success for students. Due to the differences in the way that education is being delivered and acquired, adjustments and changes in approaches need to be undertaken.

Selecting the right distance learning school.

The first element for success is to choose the right distance learning school. There are many unscrupulous "degree mills" around in the market that are only keen to sell their degrees without providing good education and ample student support. As a result, the degrees offered by these institutions may not be recognized, or may sometimes even be regarded as bogus degrees. In order to prevent this, do the proper background check on the institution you are considering with the relevant authorities to verify on their accreditation and authenticity before registering.

Cost-benefit analysis Some students enroll in an online distance learning course without doing a cost benefit analysis of taking the course in the first place. It is a known fact that obtaining an education requires a hefty sum of investment. However, this should be compared with the potential additional income that can be generated from the degree that is earned. Only then can the full rewards be reaped from gaining an online degree.

Degree positioning to employers.

There have been many cases where employers were wary of the validity of online degrees. With so many online institutions selling degrees, it is justified for employers to exercise caution. Although a distance learning degree may be 100% legitimate, it would help if you provide adequate explanation on the accreditation of the degree in order to avoid misunderstanding. By stressing that the accreditation body which accredited your institution or your program is recognized by the US Department of Education as well as CHEA, you can then eliminate any doubts that employers about the validity of your degree.

Exercise discipline, determination and time management.

In the actual course of study, many students lack discipline and focus and therefore are unable to keep up with online lessons and assignments. It is very important for distance learning students to have great determination to succeed, as it is very easy to get de-motivated and distracted when you are alone with no peers. Good time management along with communication with other students would make excellent measures for success.

Make full use of facilities provided.

Many distance learning online courses offer online lectures and email correspondence to facilitate communication with lecturers, tutors and other students. These facilities should be utilized as much as possible as it provides a link back to the education institution. Furthermore, this would be a great source of motivation in order to keep progressing through the course of study.

Utilize credit transfers.

Most distance learning institutions allow students to transfer their credits from other courses that they had taken from other universities or colleges. This way, students will not have to repeat what they have already learnt. In order to do this, it is important for distance learning students to obtain transcripts and results from their previous schools and send them to their distance learning online university to obtain credit transfers.

Good utilization of technology for education.

The final element for distance learning success it the ability to make full use of the conveniences that technology has to offer. Many online universities provide students with online research resources that are valuable for completing assignments or producing research papers. The cost of facilities such as virtual libraries and online books has probably been factored into the fees paid and therefore it makes good sense to utilize these facilities to the fullest.

You Should Apply To Online College Programs by Justin Sloan

The first step to getting your online degree is to apply to colleges. Research several colleges offering the degree program you need. Once you have decided on a school, you are ready to begin the application process. While the requirements may vary slightly, most colleges have similar processes. You will need to fill out an application, either online or on paper. Check with the university for application deadlines. Just about all schools charge an application fee; these fees are usually small.

You will need to include any supporting documentation required by the school where you are applying. You will find this information included with the application. All schools require original transcripts from all schools previously attended. This will include both high school and college transcripts. A few schools look for college preparatory courses in high school. Send your requests early to allow enough time for transcripts to arrive at the college. Some schools will require SAT test scores and immunization records as well.

You will have to meet the admission requirements of the college you will be attending. The requirements vary by school and in some cases can be different based on your major. Be sure to check with the university to determine the requirements. Many schools have a minimum SAT score requirement for admission, although some waive this for some programs or for non traditional students. Non traditional students are defined as older students who have been out of high school for at least five years and have work experience. Students transferring from other institutions are in this category as well.

Many schools require students pass placement tests prior to registering for classes. These tests usually have English, math and writing components. This is to determine if potential students have the reading, writing and math skills necessary to succeed in college. If you don't pass one of the placement tests, you may be required to take remedial courses prior to starting your degree; this is not unusual for people returning to school after many years. Graduate programs will usually require additional testing, such as the Graduate Record Exam (GRE).

When you apply to the school, you can also apply for financial aid. Talk to a representative about programs available to students in the form of financial aid and scholarships. Start the process by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Complete the application even if you don't think you will qualify for federal aid. Most other student loan programs use the same application. To be able to accept federal financial aid, the school must be regionally accredited. Accreditation is a voluntary process and matters mainly for financial aid and transferring credit to other universities. Check with an admissions counselor if you're not sure about accreditation.

Once you have completed all applications and testing, you will find out if you have been accepted into the program. Once you have been accepted, you will be eligible to register for classes and begin the journey toward your college degree. The admissions counselor at your university can assist you in scheduling your courses. There is often an order in which classes should be taken. Once you have registered, you pay for your classes, get your books and attend orientation, if required.
